The Famous People of PNG series is about remembering the heroes of our past.  It is written for students from Grade 8 upwards.

Louis Vangeke was Papua New Guinea's first Roman Catholic bishop.  He was a man in advance of his time.  He demonstrated just how well Papua New Guinean people could succeed in the European culture that had infiltrated their world.  Beginning life as a sickly child, he grew to accept the challenges offered by the church that eventually made him one of its leaders.
